Health and Safety Policy for Finsbury Park Removals
Finsbury Park Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our operations. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport, unloading and storage services.
Our Health and Safety Objectives
Our primary health and safety objectives are to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our work activities. We aim to achieve this by identifying hazards, assessing risks, implementing effective controls and continuously improving our safety performance.
We recognise that safety is a shared responsibility. Every member of staff is expected to cooperate with this policy, follow safe systems of work and report any concerns so they can be addressed promptly.
Legal Responsibilities and Management Commitment
Finsbury Park Removals will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and associated regulations that apply to our operations. Senior management is responsible for ensuring that appropriate resources, training, supervision and equipment are provided to support safe working practices across all removal and transport services.
Management will review this policy regularly to ensure it remains suitable, effective and aligned with current legal requirements and industry best practice. Any significant changes to our operations or risk profile will trigger an interim review of related procedures and controls.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We will carry out risk assessments for our activities, including home and office removals, packing services, furniture disassembly and reassembly, and goods-in-transit operations. These assessments will identify significant hazards such as manual handling, slips and trips, working at height, use of tools and equipment, and vehicle movements in residential and commercial areas.
Based on these risk assessments, we will implement safe systems of work that may include route planning, safe loading and unloading procedures, traffic management at collection and delivery sites, and designated walkways where practical. Staff must follow documented procedures and any site-specific instructions communicated before or during a job.
Manual Handling and Lifting Practices
Manual handling is a core part of our removal services and presents a significant risk of injury if not properly managed. Finsbury Park Removals is committed to reducing manual handling risks by:
Providing handling aids such as sack trucks, dollies, straps, ramps and protective blankets where appropriate.
Encouraging team lifting and coordinated movement of large, heavy or awkward items such as furniture, appliances and office equipment.
Ensuring items are packed, wrapped and labelled in a way that supports safe handling, with consideration given to weight distribution and stability.
Training staff in safe lifting techniques, posture, load assessment and the importance of stopping work if a lift cannot be completed safely.
Vehicle, Driver and Road Safety
Our vehicles are essential to our removal services and must be operated safely at all times. We will maintain our fleet in a roadworthy condition through regular checks, inspections and servicing in line with manufacturer and legal requirements.
Drivers are required to conduct pre-use checks, report defects immediately and not operate any vehicle they believe to be unsafe. Loads must be secured correctly to prevent movement during transit and to avoid risks when doors are opened at delivery locations.
We expect all driving to be carried out in a safe, considerate and lawful manner, taking into account local traffic conditions, restrictions on parking, loading and unloading, and the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
Workplace, Customer Site and Public Safety
Our activities often take place in customers homes, offices, storage locations and public areas. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that our work does not put customers, visitors or the general public at risk.
Measures may include maintaining clear access routes, using warning signs where appropriate, managing trip hazards from equipment and packing materials, and coordinating with customers or site representatives about safe access and exit points.
Employees are required to act with care and professionalism, taking special consideration in busy residential streets, shared entrances, stairwells, lifts and narrow access areas common in urban environments.
Information, Instruction, Training and Supervision
Finsbury Park Removals will provide appropriate information, instruction and training to ensure that employees are competent to carry out their duties safely. This may include induction training, on-the-job instruction, toolbox talks and refresher sessions on topics such as manual handling, use of equipment, vehicle safety and emergency procedures.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for monitoring working practices, correcting unsafe behaviour, and supporting less experienced staff. No employee is expected to undertake a task for which they have not received adequate training or instruction.
Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment
We will supply and maintain suitable equipment to support safe removals, including vehicles, ramps, trolleys and other handling aids. All equipment will be used in accordance with manufacturer instructions and company procedures.
Where identified by risk assessment, personal protective equipment such as safety footwear, gloves or high-visibility clothing will be provided and must be worn as instructed. Employees are expected to take reasonable care of equipment and report any defects immediately.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, near misses and hazardous conditions must be reported as soon as possible so that appropriate action can be taken. We will investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures will be communicated to staff, taking account of the varied environments in which we work, such as residential buildings, offices, communal areas and shared access points. Employees must familiarise themselves with any site-specific emergency arrangements upon arrival.
Consultation, Communication and Continuous Improvement
We encourage open communication about health and safety matters. Employees are invited to raise concerns, suggest improvements and participate in discussions about safe working practices. No one will be penalised for reporting a genuine safety concern or for refusing to carry out work they reasonably believe to be unsafe.
Finsbury Park Removals is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We will review this policy periodically and update our procedures in light of experience, changing legal requirements, customer feedback and industry developments.
This Health and Safety Policy applies to all employees and contractors working on behalf of Finsbury Park Removals and forms an integral part of our commitment to delivering professional, reliable and safe removal services.
